The sacrifice of the Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh is a golden chapter in Indian history that show unparalleled courage displayed by young warriors at a tender age to protect religion, truth and justice, said Anurag Thakur, former union minister, while addressing a gathering on Veer Bal Divas at Naduan near here on Friday.
He added that this act of great heroism would continue to inspire countrymen for generations to come. He said that instead of bowing down to tyranny, the Sahibzadas proved, through their sacrifice, that the protection of the nation and religion was paramount. This sacrifice is not only a priceless legacy for the Sikh community but for all countrymen.
Thakur said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced in January 2022, on the Parkash Purb of Shri Guru Gobind Singh, that December 26 would be celebrated as ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ in the memory of the martyrdom of the guru’s sons Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh. Thakur said the objective of celebrating Veer Bal Diwas was to make the children and youth of the country aware of the sacrifice made by the Sahibzadas. He said, “The Modi government, paying true respect to the Sahibzadas, announced the observance of Veer Bal Diwas in their memory. For years, our Sikh brothers at Dera Baba Nanak could only take a glimpse of Kartarpur Sahib from across the border through binoculars, but the Modi government opened the Kartarpur Corridor.” Earlier, Thakur was accorded a rousing welcome at Inderpal Chowk in Nadaun, led by Rakesh Thakur, the president of the BJP’s district unit.
