Government Degree College, Salooni, is set to organise a seven-day virtual workshop on the Tankri script from April 15 to 21. The Research, Innovation and Preservation Cell (RIPC) in collaboration with the Him Sanskriti Shodh Sansthan, Anni (Kullu), is organising the programme.
The initiative seeks to revive the ancient Tankri script, once widely used in the Western Himalayan region and known for its cultural and historical significance. Over the years, the script has gradually declined due to the dominance of modern writing systems and the lack of formal teaching.
The workshop will provide participants with basic training in reading, writing and interpreting the Tankri script. It will also introduce them to digitised manuscripts and inscriptions, while encouraging interdisciplinary research connecting language, culture and history, said college principal Mohinder Kumar Slariya.
The workshop will be conducted in an online mode. The participants will attend live interactive sessions via Google Meet, receive study material through WhatsApp and submit assignments for evaluation.
The registration fee has been fixed at Rs 200 per person, and interested participants can register online till April 15. “Such initiatives play a crucial role in preserving our indigenous knowledge systems and promoting awareness of cultural heritage among the younger generation,” Slariya added.
The organisers have invited students, researchers and cultural enthusiasts to take part in the workshop.
