Sand-laden truck stuck on Nahan-Paonta road for 3 hours, driver challaned Rs 22K

Traffic on the Nahan-Paonta Sahib road came to a standstill for nearly three hours after a truck with a trailer carrying sand got stuck and remained parked diagonally across the carriageway near Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya on Sunday, leading to long queues of vehicles on both sides.
The incident was reported to the Nahan police control room, following which a team from the Nahan Sadar police station, led by ASI Jaswinder Singh, rushed to the spot. The truck-trailer, bearing registration number HR45E-3236, was found blocking the road near a bend behind Thapa Hut in the Khajurna area.
The driver, identified as Sameer Khan, a resident of Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, was present at the spot. The police said the vehicle was registered in the name of Chaudhary Traders and loaded with sand.
According to the police, the driver failed to make any effort to clear the road despite the complete disruption of the traffic. The blockage resulted in long queues of vehicles heading towards both Nahan and Paonta Sahib, causing considerable inconvenience to commuters.
With the situation worsening, the police called a JCB to the spot. The sand loaded in the truck-trailer was first unloaded with the help of the machine, following which the truck-trailer was removed from the road and parked at a nearby unpaved location.
Police personnel worked continuously for nearly three hours to clear the obstruction and regulate traffic from both directions. Once the road was cleared, vehicles stranded in the jam were allowed to pass one by one and normal traffic movement was restored.
The police seized the truck-trailer and the sand through a seizure memo and initiated further investigation. A challan of Rs 22,000 was issued against the driver for violations of the traffic rules.
The police said parking the vehicle diagonally in the middle of the road and obstructing public movement amounted to an offence under Section 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). On the basis of ASI Jaswinder Singh’s report, an FIR was registered at the Nahan Sadar police station and further probe initiated into the matter.
