Pradeep Sharma, a a retired government school principal and renowned international referee, has been selected as an International Technical Official for the upcoming Asian Championship-2026 at Gandhinagar in Gujarat from May 10 to 17. As many as 40 Asian countries will participate in this annual championship being hosted by India. The championship is considered significant as it is a qualifying event for the Asian Games-2026 scheduled (after four years) in Japan in September this year.
Sharma, a resident of Jawali in Kangra district, has built a distinguished track record as a technical official and referee in multiple prestigious international sporting events. He had represented India as a referee in the Commonwealth Championship in Greater Noida in 2023, as the manager of the national team at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (UK) in 2022.
He had also officiated as a referee at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). Sharma had also provided services as a referee in the National Games, Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India University Games and the Khelo India Tribal Games.
