SFI protests at HPU, demands NTA abolition over UGC-NET exam errors
Students seek judicial probe into NTA’s examination lapses, call for transparent, fair and accountable testing system
The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) unit of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) today staged a protest against the Central Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA), demanding the abolition of the testing agency and the establishment of a transparent, fair and accountable examination system.
The SFI also demanded a judicial inquiry into the NTA’s continued examination-related failures and alleged flaws in UGC-NET question papers.
Addressing the protest, SFI campus secretary Mukesh Rana said the NTA had recently decided to conduct the UGC-NET examination again for subjects including English, Commerce and Sociology, which was held in June 2026.
“Serious deficiencies have been found in the question papers, including factual, typographical and translation errors, as well as ambiguity in the language of questions and repetition of previously asked questions,” he said.
Rana said the issues reflected the NTA’s failure to conduct examinations properly. “Issues arising with various national-level exams, including NEET, have impacted the futures of lakhs of students. Exam irregularities force students to reappear in their exams, disrupting their preparation, time, financial resources and future plans,” he said.
He said the Central Government took only temporary measures whenever an examination-related crisis arose, while no concrete steps were being taken to address the fundamental and institutional problems within the NTA.
The SFI warned that it would launch a mass movement if its demands were not met promptly.
