To improve facilities at the park adjoining Sankat Mochan temple in Shimla, the district administration is renovating it at a cost of Rs 20 lakh. The renovation is set to be completed within a week, after which the park shall be opened for visitors.
Shimla Deputy Commissioner (DC) said Sankat Mochan was one of the most famous temples in the town and hundreds of devotees visited it to pay obeisance on a daily basis. He said that the condition of the park adjoining the temple had been poor for a long time.
“The park was originally built in 2004 and was in use till 2010. However, due to the park not being renovated in the past 15 years, its condition turned poor, leading to a gradual decline in its beauty. Not only this, swings that were installed there were also in a poor state due to which children could not play in the park,” he said.
The DC further said that in 2025, he inspected the park directed the officials concerned to carry out renovation work, which had now been going on for the past few months. “New swings have now been installed at the park. In addition, green carpeting has been laid to provide a better playing surface for children. Furthermore, new toys and decorative figures have also been installed for children’s recreation and to enhance the park’s appearance, along with proper seating arrangements,” he added.
