Shimla, April 13

The vehicular traffic on Shimla-Kalka National Highway remained blocked for over one-and-a-half-hour as a loaded truck veered off the road and hung on the edge, at Taradevi, 12 km from the state capital.

The truck was precariously balanced and could roll down any time. A blockade was casued when a crane was requisitioned to pull the truck to safety.

Shimla SP Omapati Jamwal said the truck went off the road while overtaking another vehicle and it was required to be pulled back on the road immediately. The road was cleared and normal traffic restored, the SP added.

There was a huge rush of vehicles as tourists in large numbers were on way to Shimla in the weekend. Long queues of vehicles were seen on the either side of the blockade. Commuters heaved a sigh of relief when the road was cleared.
