Shimla MC delimitation: Objections filed, hearing tomorrow

Shimla, February 17

As many as 15 types of objections have been received by the Deputy Commissioner’s office to the delimitation draft proposal issued by the latter for public scrutiny a week back.

“Today was the last day for lodging objections. The objections will be heard on February 19,” said Additional DC Shivam Pratap Singh. While the total number of objections run into hundreds, these have been clubbed into around 15 different categories. “The objections will be disposed of by February 24,” he said.

The draft proposal has proposed the creation of seven new wards, increasing the number of wards from 34 to 41. For this purpose, some wards have been bifurcated, while the boundaries of a few others have been redrawn. Besides, the boundaries of some wards have been changed, even though they are not contributing to the creation of new wards. And this is what a few councillors are objecting to.

“There is no need to change the boundaries of the wards not connected to the new wards, especially when there wasn’t any objection from the residents,” said Simi Nanda, councillor from Nabha, who filed her objection.

She alleged almost half of the area of her ward had been merged with the adjoining Phagli ward, which will causing inconvenience to the people. “The area of the ward should be compact, not in pieces,” she said.

Objections have been filed from even those wards which have been bifurcated, Vikas Nagar being one such case. “Dividing the ward into two is a good decision, but people are not happy with the way it has been bifurcated,” said Rachna, the councillor.

“It has been divided into upper and lower Vikas Nagar but the latter will have no facilities, especially parking lots. And it will be difficult to create facilities like parking, dispensaries, etc, as well in lower Vikas Nagar because there’s no government or the MC land. So, the ward should be bifurcated in a way that both wards get equitable facilities,” she said.

The final orders on the delimitation of wards will be on or before March 9. — TNS

Will be disposed of by Feb 24
