Shimla, November 28
The Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC) today granted an unconditional NOC to the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) here for the shifting of the vegetable mandi from the middle of the town to Darni Ka Bagicha on the outskirts.
The plan has been hanging fire for the past many years because the Municipal Corporation was not willing to offer the land unconditionally.
“In the larger interest of the public and the city, the House gave its consent for an unconditional no objection certificate. It will help in decongesting the site,” said Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Ajit Bhardwaj.
Himachal Pradesh State Agriculture Marketing Board MD Naresh Thakur said that the board would soon prepare a detailed project report (DPR) and begin work on the construction of the sabji mandi as early as possible.
In another major development, the Municipal Corporation House got an assurance from Shimla Jal Prabandhak Nigam Limited (SJPNL) to issue monthly water bill from January.
The company has issued collective water bills for the last nine months and in many cases, the amount exceeded Rs 70,000, causing resentment among consumers. The company, however, has allowed the consumers to pay the bills in instalments without any surcharge.
“For the last two years, we have been demanding monthly bills, but to no avail,” said councillor Divakar Sharma.
The issues related to parking and garbage tax was also taken up in the MC House.
