Shimla police arrest Punjab man carrying 48 g heroin

NDPS case registered, further investigation under way

A Punjab resident has been arrested with around 48 g of heroin in Shimla, police said here on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Vicky (31), a resident of Dhamoli village under Rajpura Tehsil, Patiala district.

According to the police, the action came under its ongoing drive against drug trafficking networks.

Police had received inputs about an individual travelling in a Punjab roadways bus, heading towards Shimla, carrying a significant amount of heroin. Taking swift action, a special cell team of the district police intercepted the bus near Shoghi barrier on Shimla-Kalka National Highway for checking. During the checking, police found the contraband from Vicky’s possession, after which police arrested him.

Confirming the report, Shimla SSP Gaurav Singh said that a case under section 21 of NDPS Act, 1985 was registered against the accused in Police Station, West and an investigation was initiated.

The SSP said that the accused was presented in the local court from where he was sent on a police remand. Further investigation is under way and the involvement of more individuals in this network is being ascertained.
