Shimla police deploy SHOs to manage gridlocks during peak hours

Taking further steps to ensure smooth traffic movement in the state’s capital during peak hours, the district police have decided to deploy Station House Officers (SHOs) to take charge of traffic operations at the ground level.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla Gaurav Singh has issued directions to all SHOs, instructing them to personally monitor the traffic system within the town from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and from 4:30 pm to 6 pm every day.

He pointed out that traffic is particularly challenging during morning hours, with a surge in personal vehicles and public transport usage as people drop off kids at school and head to work. The evening commute is just as chaotic, with parents picking up their children and employees heading home, causing gridlocks across the city.

“To resolve this issue, it was decided to hand over the responsibility of maintaining smooth traffic movement in the town to the SHOs, who are now coordinating with traffic police personnel,” he added.

“Our goal is to provide safe, smooth and seamless traffic experience to locals as well as tourists. We have also deployed additional police personnel at key locations to further strengthen Shimla’s security and traffic management system,” he stated further.
