Snow, rain likely across Himachal on Feb 10

Himachal Pradesh is set to witness a fresh spell of snowfall and rain on February 10, with the State Meteorological Department issuing a yellow weather warning for seven districts — Shimla, Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, Kinnaur, Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti. The warning also cautions against thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in these areas.

According to the department, light snowfall is very likely in the higher and mid-hill regions of the warned districts. Light rain is also expected at isolated places in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan and Sirmaur districts. While weather conditions across the state are expected to remain mostly dry after this system till February 13, another spell of snowfall is very likely in the higher reaches on February 14 and 15.

The changing weather is expected to bring a sharp dip in temperatures. Minimum temperatures across the state are likely to fall by 2°C to 5°C over the next few days. Maximum temperatures are also expected to drop by 3°C to 5°C in the next 48 hours, before rising again by 2°C to 5°C thereafter.

Meanwhile, weather remained largely dry across Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours. Minimum temperatures ranged between minus 10°C and 11°C, staying above normal by 2°C to 4°C in most parts of the state. Maximum temperatures also remained above normal by 3°C to 5°C, ranging between 0°C and 24°C.

Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 6.6°C, Dharamsala 5.5°C and Manali 2.9°C. Kukumseri in Lahaul recorded a low of minus 9.4°C, while Tabo village in Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest place in the state at minus 9.9°C. Una was the hottest, recording a maximum temperature of 24°C.
