Solan Bar Association goes on strike, seeks FIR in sssault on advocate
Lawyers protest alleged police inaction, march to SP office demanding action against accused
The Solan Bar Association on Tuesday observed a day-long strike to protest alleged police inaction in a case involving the assault of a local advocate.
The protesting lawyers took out a march from the district courts to the Superintendent of Police’s office, where they demanded the immediate registration of an FIR. They also raised slogans, accusing the police of lack of cooperation.
According to the complaint, advocate Rajkumar was allegedly assaulted on January 3 following an altercation during his brother’s birthday celebration. He claimed that the accused abused members of the legal fraternity and later followed him to the Saproon police station, where he was allegedly pulled out and beaten in the presence of police personnel.
Rajkumar said he remained at home the following day due to trauma and alleged that when he approached the police on January 5, no FIR was registered. He further claimed that the police did not accompany him for a medical examination at the district hospital, citing staff shortages, and that his attempt to undergo a medical examination failed in the absence of police presence.
Efforts by police officials to pacify the protesting advocates by citing action taken in the matter did not succeed, with the Bar Association insisting on the registration of an FIR.
