Solan Mayor calls students ‘true ambassadors of cleanliness’
A Swachhata Hi Seva campaign was organised today by the Solan Municipal Corporation. It was presided over by the Solan MC Mayor Usha Sharma.
Addressing a gathering comprising staff and school children, she said complete cleanliness could be ensured only with the active participation of the general public.
She administered an oath to the gathering to maintain cleanliness and contribute to the campaign while also ensuring that their family members and others lent their support towards it. The campaign is being organised from September 17 to October 2.
It was an important effort to create awareness about cleanliness as clean surroundings led to a healthy mind, she added. “Students are the true ambassadors of cleanliness and they can make their family members as well as others aware about cleanliness,” she said.
Earlier, the chief guest formally opened the programme by lighting the inaugural lamp. Solan Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ekta Kapata welcomed the chief guest and presented details about the campaign. She called upon children to keep schools, their homes and their surroundings clean.
“By adopting cleanliness, a person remains physically healthy, and by keeping the environment neat and clean, one remains safe from various diseases,” she said.
On this occasion, various competitions such as slogan writing, poster making and painting contests were organised for school and college students.
The winners of the competitions were later felicitated by the Mayor, Commissioner, councillors and the members of the Rotary Royal Club.
During the programme, Solan Rotary Royal Club president Dr Kamal Atwal also expressed his views on the campaign.
