Five office-bearers of the Solan City Congress, including its vice-president, three general secretaries and a secretary on Wednesday tendered their resignations to the city president resenting the unsavoury remarks made by former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh against former Pradesh Congress Committee president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu at a recent rally in Hamirpur.

In a joint statement, the five office-bearers said terming the party workers as junk was condemnable and this had hurt them. They said Sukhu had served the party for six years and he had worked hard to strengthen the party till the booth level.

Coming out in support of Sukhu , the party leaders said he had offered to resign four months ago and it was lamentable that the former Chief Minister had stated that he had been removed from the party president’s post for being inactive.

This will not only weaken the party, but will not augur well for the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. They also urged the party’s state in-charge, Rajni Patil, to curb such anti-party utterances and also air their grievance before the party high command.

Sukhu also found support from Sunil Chauhan, the party’s social media in-charge, who said his six-year tenure had strengthened the party’s organisation and he had given respect to even small party functionaries.

He said though a state party chief had a three-year tenure, Sukhu served for two terms owing to his strong leadership qualities.
