Dharamsala, September 17

Sikh Regiment soldier Jasbir Singh allegedly shot dead two fellow soldiers before killing himself at the cantonment here this morning.

Jasbir, who was on duty in the officers’ mess from 2 am to 6 am, reportedly returned to the barracks and shot dead Havildar Hardeep Singh and Naik Harpal Singh in their beds. Later, he also shot himself. All three died on the spot.

Sources said Jasbir had an altercation with his two  fellow soldiers just after returning from duty. The heated arguments saw a bloody end.

According to Brigade Commander of 18 Sikh Regiment Brig Navdeep Brar, preliminary investigation indicates that Jasbir had a verbal duel  and in a fit of rage he shot two soldiers dead and then killed himself. A court of inquiry has been ordered, he said.

The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and will be handed over to their kin after the autopsy.
