The state government will soon issue standard operating procedures (SOPs) to pave the way for the re-opening of medical and dental colleges before December 1, as directed by the Central Government.

It is after receiving representations that the National Medical Council (NMC) has issued an order to all governments in this regard. “With the NMC giving the go-ahead to reopen medical and dental colleges, we will soon issue SOPs so that classes can be resumed,” said a government official.

The delay in resuming training would have a cascading effect on the training in the postgraduate and super-specialty courses in the coming years, the order by Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, said. It has also been pointed out that the delayed academic session for 2020-2021 should commence from February 1, 2021. — TNS
