UNA: Diwakar Sharma, who joined recently as the Superintendent of Police in the district, yesterday reviewed the traffic arrangements in the town.

Una, January 11

Diwakar Sharma, who joined recently as the Superintendent of Police in the district, yesterday reviewed the traffic arrangements in the town. He drove down to various parts of the town, including the congested new and old bus stand areas, besides the commercial areas .

Later, while interacting with local police officials, he directed them to deal sternly with unauthorised hawkers, those indulging in idle parking and unauthorised stops of buses on these roads that have been the main reasons for traffic jams and accidents in the area. The SP directed the traffic police personnel to deliberate with the Municipal Committee officials to identify illegal hawkers and to ensure that they were removed from the vicinity of the old and new bus stands. He said authorised hawkers should be on the move and not permanently stationed at a place. Diwakar Sharma told officers to hold a meeting with taxi, auto rickshaw and tempo unions and fix a place for their vehicles so that these did not pose any hindrance for the movement of traffic. He said shopkeepers, who encroached on footpaths by stacking their signboards and sales material, would be fined. — OC
