Residents of the Spiti valley in Lahaul and Spiti district were left worried after another Covid-19 case was reported in Rangrik village today. As many as 39 cases were reported in the village yesterday.

The Kaza administration has declared the entire village as a containment zone. The health authorities are also trying to identify the primary contacts of these patients, so that they could be isolated to check the spread of the virus.

Education minister tests Covid positive

  • Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur tested positive for Covid-19 in Manali on Thursday.
  • He posted on social media that he and his staff had undergone the corona test after coming in contact with a Covid patient recently. He added that his report and that of his personal security officer came out to be positive.
  • The minister said that he was in good health and staying in isolation in a house after consulting doctors. He urged all people, who came in contact with him yesterday, to get a Covid test done and isolate themselves.

Kaza Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Gyan Sagar Negi said the patients had been kept in isolation and a medical team was deployed in the village for their treatment. The health authority was keeping an eye on the situation and necessary action would be taken to check the spread of the virus.

He added that entire Rangrik village had been declared a containment zone and the restrictions would continue for the next few days on the movement of people in and out of the village. The movement of any person would be allowed only in emergency situations.

327 cases, 6 fatalities

As many as 327 positive cases were reported in the state, taking the total tally to 21,476. The state also saw six deaths during the day. Two deaths each were reported in Kullu and Mandi districts while one death each was reported in Bilaspur and Kangra districts as the total fatality figure rose to 301.

The highest number of 73 cases was reported from Mandi followed by 60 in Shimla, 55 in Kullu, 42 in Lahaul & Spiti, 34 in Kangra, 14 in Bilaspur, 13 in Chamba, 11 in Solan, eight in Hamirpur, seven in Sirmour, six in Una and four in Kinnaur district. The total number of active cases in the state is 2,768.
