Spread awareness about waste disposal, Mandi ADC tells officials

Mandi Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rohit Rathour emphasised the importance of scientific solid and liquid waste management for environmental conservation. He held a meeting in this regard recently and highlighted the critical need for spreading public awareness efforts by all departments.

According to the ADC, the meeting’s agenda centred on the ongoing initiatives, which aimed at preserving the quality of air in Sundernagar and ensuring the ecological health of the Beas. Rathour stressed on the need for scientific disposal of solid and liquid waste. He directed all departments to provide monthly progress reports to ensure strict compliance with the directives issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

According to Rathour, the district has made significant strides in managing solid waste, particularly for plastics. He said door-to-door collection of wet and dry garbage was underway in the urban areas, followed by its scientific disposal.

Rathour said, “Monitor designated dumping sites rigorously and take strict action against those engaged in illegal roadside dumping.” He underscored the importance of timely and systematic implementation under the groundwater management system, insisting on adherence to registration protocols before borewell installations across the district. Rathour emphasised proper disposal of bio-waste water and urged health and forest department officials to meet their respective targets promptly. He also called for enhanced inter-departmental coordination to curb illegal mining activities.

Vinay Kumar, Secretary of the district-level committee overseeing NGT matters, presented a detailed review of the problems in the district to the officials of various departments.
