Addressing a one-day awareness camp at Rait organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kangra for Scheduled Caste farmers, he said the government has, for the first time, placed special focus on agriculture, horticulture and the welfare of weaker sections.

Pathania highlighted the announcement of a State Farmers Commission to address long-pending issues and strengthen policy support.

He noted that the budget promotes natural farming with increased Minimum Support Prices (MSP). Turmeric MSP has been raised from Rs 90 to Rs 150 per kg, while ginger has been given an MSP of Rs 30 per kg for the first time. MSP for wheat, maize and barley has also been enhanced.

A modern testing laboratory and a marketing cell for natural farming produce will be set up in Hamirpur, he added.

Pathania said “Beej Gaon” (seed villages) and community seed banks will be established to ensure seed sovereignty, with financial incentives for farmers. Climate-resilient crops such as maize, lentils, red rice and kodo will be promoted.

He also announced Rs 100 per kg MSP for sheep wool under a market stabilisation scheme and the formation of a Paramilitary Welfare Board. An aerocity is also proposed in Kangra district.

Around 1,000 farmers attended the camp, where saplings and agricultural kits were distributed.
