Shimla, March 17
The government should immediately ask the Centre to roll back its decision to shut the Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) in Shimla since 1935, said the CPM in a release here.
The CPRI had made a huge contribution to the development of new yields of potato, which led to the increase in its production, said member state secretariat of the CPM and former mayor of the Shimla MC Sanjay Chauhan, adding that the decision would affect Himachal, Uttarakhand, J-K and other hilly states.
He asked the decision to close the CPRI was taken under pressure from private companies. — TNS
