Agriculture Minister Ram Lal Markanda laid the foundation stone of a marketing yard at Karga in Tandi gram panchayat, Lahaul-Spiti, on Friday.
It will be constructed at a cost of Rs 7 crore. With the yard in place, farmers will not have to go to far-off places and will be able to market their produce without any hardships.
The marketing yard will cover 28 gram panchyats of the Lahaul valley. The minister also laid the foundation stone of an ayurvedic hospital building at Teazing village.
He visited Chimret and Tingret panchayats to listeen to the grievances of the people. Villagers told him that at Chhaling village, as many as 1,100 bags of potato seeds (50-kg each were to be transported. The minister assured them of making arrangements for the same.
He inaugurated the newly constructed panchayat house at a cost of Rs 7.5 lakh at Chimret panchayat and also laid the foundation stone of an animal husbandry hospital. Ram Lal Markanda announced Rs 5 lakh for fencing fields to protect crops from stray cattle at Thanpatan under Khanjar village in the district.
