Student attempts to take own life at JP University

A first year student of computer science attempted suicide at JP University of Information Technology, Waknaghat on Wednesday night around 10 pm by jumping from the balcony of the multi-storey hostel building.

He was rushed to IGMC Shimla for treatment where his condition is critical, said SP Solan Abishek S.

A police team rushed to the university around 11.20 pm after receiving information. “As per preliminary police probe, the students have alleged that the university authorities delayed the entry of ambulance,” added the SP.

The victim’s statement will be recorded once his condition improves.

A protest erupted at the campus after the incident as students came out of their rooms and started sloganeering against the university management.
