Addressing the students, he said drugs gradually destroyed a person’s thinking, health, family and future. What begins as ‘fun’ or ‘experience’ often ends in danger, illness and regret. In the early stages, serious effects appear on the heart, lungs and the brain. Confidence collapses, habits deteriorate and decision-making weakens. It is not just a habit but an addiction—difficult to quit and often life-threatening, he added.
A suggestion box will soon be placed in the university where students can confidentially share accurate information about drug use or smuggling; verified information will earn a cash reward, he said.
He also administered an anti-drug oath. Students, research scholars and faculty members were present on the occasion.
Notably, about 1,100 students from the Dharamsala, Shahpur and Dehra campuses participated in a rally organised on the occasion of Anti-Drug Day. Later, the VC addressed a gathering at Dhauladhar Campus-I.
