During the visit, the CM said he had come to listen to doctors so that their inputs could be incorporated into government policies aimed at strengthening healthcare facilities in the state. He added that similar interactions were being held with doctors in other medical colleges of the state to enhance the quality of treatment available to patients.

Sukhu observed that several medical colleges had gradually turned into referral institutions, forcing patients to seek treatment outside the state. He said the government was committed to strengthening these institutions so that people could access better medical services within the state itself.

Highlighting plans to upgrade healthcare infrastructure, the CM said the state government would invest around Rs 3,000 crore in the coming years to introduce high-end medical technology and modern equipment in government medical institutions.

He also referred to recent steps taken to support doctors and medical students. The stipend of senior resident doctors had been increased from Rs 40,000 to Rs 1 lakh, while that of senior resident super-specialist doctors from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.30 lakh.

Sukhu further said the government planned to increase the number of postgraduate seats in medical colleges and create 60-student sections to improve the quality of medical education. Adequate staff would also be appointed to ensure better training facilities for students, he added.
