Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has initiated steps for the development of world class sports facilities in the state and pushing the youth to take up sports, said Sunil Sharma Bittu, political adviser to the Chief Minister, here today.
Bittu, while addressing athletes at a prize distribution ceremony organised by the District School Sports Association (DSSA) at the Town Hall, said that the Chief Minister had doubled the diet money for school athletes immediately upon assuming office.
He said that for the school athletes participating in national-level competitions, the Chief Minister had arranged AC-class rail travel and air travel in special cases. “This is the first government that has made such big decisions for talented players.
A world-class indoor stadium is under construction in Nadaun at a cost of Rs 125 crore. It will be a big gift for the players of the state from the Chief Minister,” he added.
He appreciated the DSSA for hosting the first-ever prize distribution function for district school sportspersons, who had competed at the national level.
He said that it would boost the morale of young players and motivate them to work harder. He congratulated all players, physical education teachers and the parents of the students for Hamirpur’s outstanding performance in the Under-19 category and securing the Governor’s Trophy this time.
