Embracing the spirit and resilience of the mighty Dhauladhars, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday unveiled the official T-shirts for the upcoming Dharamsala Marathon, scheduled to be held on December 25. The specially designed apparel symbolises the enduring strength of the mountains, reflecting the essence of the inaugural event, which aims to blend the ancient spirit of the Himalayas with the modern test of athletic endurance.

The marathon — first of its kind in the town — features a range of categories tailored to different age groups and fitness levels. Participants can choose from a 3-km run, a 5-km dash, a 10-km power run, a 21-km half marathon and a 42-km full marathon. This year’s theme, “Say No to Chitta,” underscores the administration’s commitment to combatting drug abuse through community involvement and healthy lifestyle initiatives.

Speaking to The Tribune, Dharamsala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Zafar Iqbal said the marathon forms a key highlight of the Kangra Valley Karnival. Elaborate arrangements have been put in place to ensure the event’s success, he added. Iqbal noted that the carnival is being envisioned as an annual calendar event beginning every Christmas — traditionally a bustling period in the hill town.

Expressing confidence in the initiative, he said the marathon is poised to enhance tourism potential in Kangra district and strengthen its positioning as the emerging tourism capital of Himachal Pradesh. Framed as a “run towards enlightenment,” the event is expected to draw participants and visitors from across the region.
