A one-day training programme on tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment was organised for MBBS students at the conference hall of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Chamba, under the National TB-elimination (National Task Force) Programme. The session was led by the programme’s national chairperson, Dr Prof Ashok Bhardwaj.
Principal of the medical college, Dr Pankaj Gupta, said a core committee meeting with heads of various departments was also convened on the occasion.
The primary objective of the meeting was to ensure that all clinical departments expedite the screening of suspected TB patients and provide timely and appropriate treatment.
Dr Gupta added that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital had been conducting TB investigations at the fastest pace in the region, which had significantly benefitted patients by enabling early diagnosis and treatment.
During the meeting, Dr Bhardwaj directed all heads of departments to ensure that at least 10 per cent of their OPD and IPD patients were screened for tuberculosis. He said enhanced screening was crucial to identifying TB cases early and helping affected individuals recover sooner.
