Teachers are the architects of the nation’s future and students graduating from institutions such as Swami Vivekananda College of Education must shoulder the responsibility of nation-building, said Dr Shashi Kumar Dhiman, Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Technical University, while addressing students at the college’s annual prize distribution function in Tarkwari, Bhoranj subdivision.

Dr Dhiman spoke about the trust society places in teachers, highlighting the analogy of a mother who, after caring for her child for the first few years, leaves the child in school with the belief the child would be safe in the hands of the teacher. He stressed it is the teacher’s responsibility to honour this trust and guide future generations. He also emphasised the importance of discipline, punctuality and honesty for young educators.

The Vice Chancellor further advised students to adopt high moral values and avoid the prevalent drug abuse that is undermining society. “One drug addict in a family is enough to destroy it,” he warned. Dr Dhiman urged students to face life’s pressures with resilience and not succumb to them. He also recommended reading the teachings of the ‘Gita’ and Swami Vivekananda, urging students to explore these sources of inspiration.

Rajeev Sharma, Chairman of the college, noted the institution, established 23 years ago, had expanded its offerings, now including D.Ed, M.Ed and a school.

The Principal, Dr Anjali Sharma shared the college’s achievements, announcing it had received NAAC accreditation with Grade B this year, marking it as one of the premier B.Ed colleges in the state. Alongside academic success, the college had excelled in sports and cultural activities, winning the state-level volleyball championship in the girls’ category and being runners-up in badminton. The ceremony concluded with a vibrant cultural programme presented by the students.
