Members of the Teacher Home Committee in Kullu have taken it upon themselves to beautify government schools. Under this unique initiative, the educators are using their personal funds, contributions and voluntary labour to give schools a new and attractive look. The campaign has been named ‘Banka School’, where ‘Banka’ in local dialect signifies beautiful and clean.

The primary objective of the drive is to provide children studying in government schools with a clean, attractive and positive environment, enabling them to receive education in better surroundings. The teachers believe that if the school atmosphere is pleasant and inspiring, children’s interest in studies naturally increases, facilitating their overall development.

So far, two schools in Raison and Devdhar have been transformed under this campaign. Initiatives undertaken at these schools include painting, thorough cleaning, attractive wall paintings, walls adorned with educational messages and improved seating arrangements. The new look of these schools has captured the attention of students, parents and local residents.

Ravinder Thakur, general secretary of the Teacher Home Committee, said that the positive vision of committee’s president Shyam Lal Handa and treasurer Jeet Kumar had given momentum to the campaign. He added that this was not merely about beautification but a symbol of dedication and responsibility towards education.

Several social organisations, including Sahbhagita Sanstha and Care Himalaya, along with local residents, are also extending their support to this mission. The teachers’ initiative is receiving widespread appreciation in the district.

If all teachers in the district join this campaign, all government schools in Kullu can acquire a new identity as ‘Banka’ schools in the coming times. This effort is not only changing the face of the schools but also sending a positive message about education in society.
