Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that matter regarding mining of salt in Drang mine would be taken up with the Union Government. The Chief Minister was addressing a public meeting at Narela in Drang area of Mandi district after laying foundation stones of Vallabh Cluster University Building, ITI building and a bridge over Ulh river at Kamand.

He said an Atal Adarsh school for girls would be opened in Drang area to ensure quality education to the girl students.

The Chief Minister indicated that the name of Mandi town could be changed and he asked suggestions from people. Earlier, Mandi town was known as Mandvya Nagar, the worship place of Mandvya Rishi.

He said the state government would provide all possible assistance to develop Jatingri, Parashar and Barot area from the tourism point of view. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ensuring that Himachal Pradesh got all possible assistance in the matter of development. He said that the state government had given international status to Mandi Shivratri and a notification in this regard had been issued. He said that the state government was planning to develop Mandi town as a tourist destination for which Shiv Dham would be developed. This would prove an added attraction to tourists.

He announced upgrade of the CHC Barot to a civil hospital and opening of a fire substation at Padhar. He performed bhumi pujan of Bhiuli Tung road stage-II and of Arnehar Bunga road.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a water supply scheme to partially cover the habitation of Dhundha area from Dhandhwal Khad in Kufri Gram Panchayat.

He laid the foundation stone of a lift water supply scheme for Baragaon, Kufri, Dharmchyan and Tikker under BRICS to come up at a cost of Rs 60.58 crore. He also laid the foundation stone of lift irrigation scheme from Beas river to Pali, Silag, Kunnu villages in Padhar tehsil.
