Solan, March 17

To assess losses incurred by workers, truck operators and investors due to clashes between transporters in Parwanoo, the Solan ADM has directed all such individuals to file their claim before the Member Secretary, Single Window Clearance Agency, within a week.

A seven-day notice has been issued, asking all individuals, transport companies and investors to file their claim. Four claims have been received since Friday and more are expected to be filed in the coming week.

The move follows directions of the High Court, where an interim administrative body headed by the ADM and comprising labour officer, AC, Parwanoo, Member Secretary, Single Window Clearance Agency, RTO and DSP, has been constituted to assess the losses caused to various stakeholders and also to ensure peaceful operations of transporters in the industrial town.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner had convened a meeting with members of the transport companies as well as the local industry association, seeking their views on the problems faced by them in the current scenario.

The court has also directed the district administration to take lawful action against the truck operators in case they show any resistance so that no one is denied a chance to ply his vehicle and earn livelihood.

The situation was peaceful after the March 1 court order and all eyes are now on the interim administrative body, which is assessing the intricacies of the situation. Two warring transport groups had been trying to establish their supremacy by unleashing violence on several occasions since June last year.

While industry associations are of the view that they should be allowed to hire vehicles from outside as the local transport companies are charging exorbitant rates, the issue of providing them security to ensure hassle-free operations is being pondered. The industry associations are working out the nitty-gritty of this new arrangement, which is time consuming as it requires comparison of the freight of transporters from other areas.

The state government is also working out the modalities of setting up an office of the interim administrative body to ensure smooth operations.
