Three arrested with heroin in Nurpur’s anti-drug crackdown

In a sustained anti-drug operation in the interstate border belt of Nurpur, the district police arrested three alleged drug peddlers and seized heroin (chitta) in two separate actions within 24 hours.

Acting on specific information, the Damtal police, along with CIA staff, conducted a raid at Sangehar village. During the house search, 42.64 grams of heroin was recovered. The accused, Kuldeep Kumar, son of Gosha, was taken into custody. A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him.

In a separate operation, the Nurpur police set up a special naka at Kandwal, the interstate barrier near Nurpur. A Kia Sonet (HP-38H-9936) was intercepted, and 5.72 grams of heroin was recovered from the occupants. The accused were identified as Vivek Mahajan of Bassa (Raja Ka Bagh) and Vikas Chaudhary of Jassur.

Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma said the accused have been arrested and the vehicle used to transport the contraband has been impounded. The police have initiated further investigation to establish forward and backward linkages in the drug trafficking network and identify other persons involved.
