Three persons, including two women, were killed while two others sustained serious injuries after a Bolero Camper (HP 92 3945) skidded into a 200m-deep gorge near Bahlidhar village under Rampur subdivision, Shimla district.
The deceased have been identified as Kapil Dev (41), a resident of Chiksa village in Rampur, Urmila Devi (40) and Pushpa Devi (67), both residents of Majhali village in Rampur. Leela Devi (41) and Rakesh Kumar (39), both from Chiksa village, sustained injuries in the accident.
The accident took place late on Friday on Bahlidhar-Chiksa link road when Kapil, who was driving the vehicle, lost control and it veered off the road and plunged into a gorge, killing three of them on the spot.
The accident was noticed by locals who immediately informed the police. A police team from Rampur reached the spot and rescued the injured with the assistance from locals. They also recovered the bodies from the gorge.
The injured as well as the bodies were taken to Mahatma Gandhi Medical Service Complex, Khaneri in Rampur, where the injured are undergoing treatment. The post-mortem examination of the deceased was also conducted in the hospital after which their bodies were handed over to their relatives for cremation.
Police officials confirmed the report and said a case has been registered and investigation is on. The police said that Kapil used to work as a milk supplier and was going back home when he gave lift to the other occupants.
