The Shimla police on Monday arrested three habitual drug peddlers from different locations under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988. The accused have been identified as Inder Dev, alias Danu (41), a resident of Mandholghat, Shimla; Deepak Thakur (35), a resident of Nav Bahar, Shimla; and Sanjeev Kumar, alias Ghoda (34), a resident of Dhar village in Theog.
SSP Gaurav Singh said they had been put under preventive detention to break the drug supply chain in the district by dismantling supply networks. He added the trio had been involved in drug peddling and had been arrested on multiple occasions in the past.
He said Inder Dev had been arrested on four occasions with “chitta” and opium. “He was first arrested from Shimla with 40.26 grams of heroin and 16.35 grams of opium on October 12, 2022. He was again arrested with 18.55 grams of heroin in Shimla on June 28, 2023 and again in Zirakpur, Punjab, on October 25, 2024, with 60 grams of heroin. He was last arrested with 2.47 grams of heroin from Solan district on December 11, 2025. Besides, 52 criminal cases have been registered against him in Himachal Pradesh and other states,” he added.
The SSP said, “Two cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against Deepak, including one registered at the West Shimla police station on July 21, 2021, when he was nabbed with 64.34 grams of heroin. On August 19, 2025, he was arrested from the Sanjauli area with 5.48 grams of heroin.”
The SSP said, “Sanjeev is also a habitual offender and was first arrested with 1.03 gram “chitta” from Dhalli on September 4, 2020. He was again arrested from Dhalli with 1.64 grams of “chitta” on October 7, 2020, and again with 12.55 grams of “chitta” from Dhalli on March 19, 2021. He was last arrested with 2.29 grams of “chitta” from Dhalli on November 30, 2025.”
