Shimla, August 5
The city’s water schedule is likely to go haywire on Saturday as the transformer at Giri water scheme has burnt. “As a result, there has been no lifting at all from the Giri Water Scheme. So, it will be difficult for us to adhere to the schedule tomorrow,” said an SJPNL official.
Shimla gets around 17-20 million litre water from Giri and no water from there will mean a substantial shortage of water for distribution.
As per the SJPNL official, the Electricity Department team has reached the scheme and the repair work has started. “The Electricity Department has assured us that the transformer would be made functional by tomorrow morning,” the official said.
The city is already getting water supply on alternate days. If it takes a longer time to fix the transformer, the situation could get bad.
