Transparency, accuracy in voter list revision stressed

Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, Election Commissioner of India, said in Shimla on Tuesday that the special intensive revision (SIR), should be conducted with complete transparency and accuracy so that no eligible person was excluded from the voter list. He inspected a polling station set up at Government Senior Secondary School, Shoghi in Shimla. He reviewed the arrangements for elections, basic facilities as well as facilities available for voters at the station.

Sandhu gave necessary instructions to officials concerned regarding the revision and said that it was an important process for strengthening democracy and the participation of all political parties and common people should be ensured. He also directed the officials to ensure the timely completion of the process of adding new voters, removing deceased or transferred voters and correcting errors. Booth-level officers were instructed to conduct door-to-door verification and voter awareness campaigns.

He said that all necessary preparations should be completed at the earliest to ensure a fair, transparent and smooth voting process. Sandhu also stressed the need to ensure the availability of drinking water, toilets, ramps, electricity and other facilities at polling stations.
