The complaint was formally registered at Majra Police Station, leading to the initiation of legal proceedings. Based on the details provided in the complaint, the police have filed a case under Section 85 and 115(2) of the Bhartiya Nahrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Section 4 of the Muslim Women Protection of Rights on Marriage Act, 2019.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Paonta Sahib, Aditi Singh informed, “Based on the complaint, we have arrested the 25-year-old accused husband, Shahrukh Khan. The police are currently investigating the allegations made by the wife. Further action will be taken following a detailed inquiry.”

The triple talaq law was enacted in India on September 19, 2018. The law criminalises the practice of a Muslim husband divorcing his wife by uttering ‘talaq’ three times. Under this legislation, police can arrest the accused husband without a warrant, and the law provides for both punishment and fines for the offense.
