Solan, April 15

Members of the Baghal Land Losers Transport Society recently met the Deputy Commissioner of Solan and apprised him of their grievances regarding the reduction in transportation work.

New transport societies being added

There is a dearth of transportation work, but new transport societies are being added and given work. We should be given more work as we have no other source of income. We were also granted less compensation when we surrendered our arable land. Jagdish Thakur, trucker

They submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner seeking adequate work. They said all registered members of the society had surrendered their arable land for the construction of the Ambuja Cements manufacturing plant at Darlaghat.

They rued that there was a dearth of transportation work but new transport societies were being added and given work. They said they should be given more work, as they had no other source of income. They said they were granted less compensation when they surrendered their arable land while members of other societies were given higher payment. As they have no source of income other than the transport business, they should be given a fair share of work in transporting clinker from Ambuja Cement Limited, said Jagdish Thakur, a trucker.

Truckers said other transport societies operated in other places as well while they had merely one source of income from the cement plant at Darlaghat.
