The Nalagarh Truck Operators Union today held a meeting in Baddi to discuss the recent High Court order of permitting the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh Industrial Association (BBNIA) to hire trucks from anywhere for transporting raw material and finished goods.
Hundreds of truckers came for the meeting. They said they respected the High Court decision but added that they would also put forth their view before the court. Union president Vidya Rattan said, “The court is yet to hear our version and we will vociferously convey this to the court on December 9. It has been unanimously resolved to fight for our cause up to the apex court.”
Truckers contended that trucks were their lone source of livelihood and the issue affected more than 5,000 of them so their stand would be aptly placed before the court.
Sitting and former MLAs of Doon and Nalagarh were also present on the occasion as truckers comprise a significant chunk of voters here. While the Congress leaders spared no effort to criticise the BJP government for failing to safeguard their interest, the BJP leaders were on the defensive.
Former Doon MLA Ramkumar Chawdhary said the state government was trying to break the union which provided food to more than 20,000 families. He said the government had shown the union in poor light which was condemnable.
Former Nalagarh MLA KL Thakur lent his support to the truckers and said there were some misgivings pertaining to freight with the industry association and it would be amicably resolved.
