Hamirpur, July 23

Two girls from Hamirpur have brought laurels to the district as both of them have been selected as lieutenants in the field of nursing in the defence services. Deeksha Sharma of Bharthiyan village was selected as lieutenant in the Navy, while Shivani Thakur of Balh village of the district was selected as lieutenant in the Medical Core of the Army.

Deeksha lost her father at early age and was brought up by her mother, Veena Sharma, who works for the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board in Dharamsala.

Deeksha completed her nursing course from Dronacharaya Nursing Institute, Dharamsala.

Shivani Thakur has completed her schooling from Him Academy Public School and completed her nursing course from Modern Nursing College, Shimla.

She said it was her dream to join the Army. Her father, Surjit Thakur, runs a small eatery in the town. He said words could not express his happiness over the selection of his daughter in the Army.

Shivani credits her success to her parents and teachers, who inspired her.
