‘Ujjwal Una’ sanitation plan rolled out to make district plastic-free
The Una district administration has launched ‘Ujjwal Una’ plan with the objective of making the district plastic-free. Addressing an orientation workshop, Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal today said that a four-stage disposal strategy had been planned.
He said the waste generated at the panchayat level would be brought to a segregation unit within the panchayat area, where the waste would be segregated into different components. It would then be transported to a micro-segregation unit and one such facility would be set up to cover a cluster of panchayats near it. The segregated waste from the clusters would be sent to the five block-level units in the district, from where these would further be sent to the industrial units concerned. Here, it would be utilised or recycled.
Lal directed all Block Development Officers to communicate the plans to the representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institutions and ensure the implementation of the plan. He said this would not only reduce obnoxious plastics from the environment, but also help sensitise the public on sanitation.
