UNA, May 23
BJP workers in Una district were today upbeat over the party’s clean sweep in Himachal. Party workers began celebrations much before the results were declared.
From Una district, BJP candidate Anurag Thakur got a huge lead of 1,08,354 votes against Congress candidate Ram Lal Thakur. The Kutlehar segment topped with 27,227 votes in favour of the BJP, while Una came second with a margin of 24,587 votes in favour of the BJP. The Gagret segment gave a lead of 22,255 votes to Anurag, while Chintpurni handed a lead of 19,364 in favour of the BJP.
Haroli was the biggest surprise with a lead of 14,921 for the BJP, a segment where the BJP had been trailing for the last three Lok Sabha elections.
While the counting of votes began at 8 am, enthusiasts began to collect at the Indira Stadium since early morning where the Election Department had made arrangements for announcing the results of each round in all five Assembly segments of the district. As the national trends began rolling on the television sets and the results found compatibility with the announcement of every single round, Congress workers made a hasty exit, while the celebrations continued for the Saffron brigade.
BJP state chief Satpal Satti said the people have given their verdict in favour of the development works done and schemes initiated by the NDA government.
