The district received about 70 mm of precipitation, the first major rainfall of the winter season, during the past 24 hours. It ended the prolonged dry spell in the region, as only 2 mm of rainfall was recorded on January 1.

The rainfall cheered up farmers of Una district, who cultivate wheat and mustard crops on about 55,000 hectares, including a substantial percentage of non-irrigated farm land. Meanwhile, thick dark clouds were hovering over the sky, promising more rain in the coming few hours.

The day temperature dropped considerably with the sun hiding behind the clouds the entire day on Friday. The rainfall also led to power cuts in most parts of the district while normal activities remained paralysed.
