Una’s Rohit, Kandaghat’s Kritika adjudged best at athletics meet

“Sports and extracurricular activities constitute a vital part of education and help in personality development,” said Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Chairman of the HP State Agricultural Marketing Board, at the valedictory function of the 27th State-Level Polytechnic Athletics and Cultural meet that concluded in Hamirpur on Thursday.

Later, Pathania gave away awards to the winners of various events. Rohit Kumar of Polytechnic College, Ambota in Una, was declared the ‘Best Athlete’ among boys, while Kritika of Kandaghat (Solan) was adjudged the ‘Best Athlete’ among girls. Ambota won the boys athletics trophy while the girls’ athletics trophy went to Kandaghat.

In the 100-metre race, Nikhil of Polytechnic College, Pragatnagar, won the gold medal, Nitin Pundir of Paonta Sahib secured the silver medal while Parth of Pragatinagar won the bronze medal. In the girls’ category, Palak of Udaipur won the gold medal, Anchal bagged the silver medal while Kritika of Kandaghat won the bronze medal.

In the 400-metre race, Tanvi of Kandaghat won the gold medal, Kritika of Kandaghat silver while Akriti of Kangra won the bronze medal. Among the boys, Rohit of Ambota won the gold medal, Gaurav of Udaipur won silver while Yogesh of Hamirpur won the bronze medal.

In javelin throw, Anmol of Chamba, Jyoti Prakash of Paonta Sahib and Gaurav of Kullu won the gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively. In high jump, Rishabh of Bilaspur won the gold medal, Sufiyan of Sundernagar secured silver while Parth of Rohru (Shimla) won the bronze medal.

In discus throw, Srijan of Pragatinagar stood first, Satveer of Sundernagar second while Anmol was third. In the girls’ category, Kritika of Kandaghat secured the first position, Tinu of Sundernagar was second while Diksha of Kangra finished third.

The local Government Polytechnic College won the overall trophy in the cultural competition. In the Pahari solo singing category, Hamirpur got the first position, Kandaghat second while Banikhet secured the third spot. In folk dance, Hamirpur secured the first position, Kullu and Pragatinagar jointly shared the second spot while Kandaghat got the third place.
