Unscientific blasting and illegal dumping of debris in rivers and nullahs have put the fragile ecology of Kinnaur district in jeopardy. The construction of several hydroelectric power projects in the district have caused significant damage to the environment. Lately, the construction of the 20 MW Roura-II hydroelectric power project by Roura Non Conventional Energy Pvt Ltd has become a bone of contention with local villagers, who are up in arms against the ecological damage it was causing. Continuous blasting and dumping of debris in nullahs have enraged the villagers.
