Shimla, July 8
Tributes were paid to former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on his first death anniversary at the Congress Office here today. Besides, a Sarv Dharm Sabha was also organised.
The Congress leader passed away here on July 8 last year following post-Covid complications. HPCC president Pratibha Singh said that she was touched by the manner in which people from across the state remembered Virbhadra Singh so fondly. She added that the former Chief Minister had dedicated his life towards ensuring uniform and balanced development of the state.
Later, people from all walks of life attended the Sarv Dharm Sabha organised at the Gaiety Theatre. Besides Pratibha Singh and her MLA son Vikramaditya Singh, Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, former Congress president Kuldeep Rathore, MLAs Nand Lal, Mohan Lal Brakta and Anirudh Singh, former ministers Kaul Singh Thakur, Sudhir Sharma and Thakur Singh Bharmouri and former MLAs Sohan Lal, Jagjivan Pal, Sanjay Rattan and Yadvinder Goma attended the Sarv Dharm Sabha.
In Chamba, A Sarv Dharm Prathana Sabha was organised. Congress leaders and workers also observed a two-minute silence.
District Congress Committee (DCC) president Neeraj Nayar said that it was unlikely that a leader of Virbhadra’s stature would ever emerge in Himachal.
In Dharamsala, Congress leaders of Kangra district distributed fruits among patients in hospitals and organised functions to pay tributes to Virbhadra Singh.
HPCC general secretary Kewal Singh Pathania said that Kangra was indebted to Virbhadra Singh, as it was during his tenure as Chief Minister that most of the developmental projects were sanctioned for the district. The Assembly complex of the Himachal Vidhan Sabha that gave the second capital status to Dharamsala and importance to Kangra district was built during Virbhadra’s tenure.
