Mandi, July 23

A Chinese national was sent to 14-day judicial custody for living in India for the past two years without having valid visa and passport. She was held by the police at the Darcha check-post in Lahaul and Spiti yesterday, when she was travelling to Leh in a taxi from Darcha.

Lahaul and Spiti SP Manav Verma said during checking of vehicles and passengers at Darcha, a Chinese woman was found without valid visa and passport. Her visa had ended two years back.

“Taking quick action, the investigation team from Keylong reached the spot and a case was registered against the woman under the Foreigners Act. The accused was produced in the court which sent her to judicial custody till August 6,” he added.

“Due to the importance of the district from the strategic point of view, the checking of visitors is being done minutely at check-posts,” he said.
