The wait of the 2.42 lakh employees for salary was finally over with the payment being made into their accounts but not without the government having to raise a loan of Rs 700 crore.

The employees heaved a sigh of relief as they got messages of their salaries for the month of August being deposited into their accounts in the morning. However, the wait of the retired employees still continues as September 10 has been fixed for disbursement of their pension.

As stated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh, the government today raised the loan of Rs 700 crore for a period of 15 years to foot the pending salary liability, which is permissible. The number of employees in the state is 2.42 lakh while there are 1.89 lakh pensioners. The monthly salary bill of employees is about Rs 1,200 crore while another Rs 800 crore is required for payment of pensions.
